Health Information Systems is the backbone of patient data management at the hospital. Its main role is to track all performance indicators and advises for evidence-based decision making. The department runs 24 hours.
What the department does
- Data quality control — Generate accurate Timeliness, completeness and consistency reports submitted to national Authorities in alignment with (KHIS)
- Clinical coding of diseases — assigning standardized codes to diagnosis of medical procedures
- HMIS Integration (EMR) — Maintains EMR by ensuring hospital systems uptime and trouble shooting HMIS related issues
- Patient Information Management — Organize, store, and retrieve both paper and electronic records efficiently for continuity of care.
- Data protection — keeping the department's work in accordance with the Data Protection Act (2019) by safeguard patients’ confidentiality and enforcing data protection policies
- Vital statistics management — processing daily notifications for births and deaths and coordinating with government entities for formal civil registrations
- Medical Legal Support — Provide certified records for court cases, insurance claims, and audits.
- Research & Education Support — Supply reliable data for clinical research, medical education, and audits
- Teaching — hosting students on attachment and internship programmes
